Rev. Dr. Lewis E. Logan II

Senior Pastor


The congregation of Wells Memorial United Methodist Church is delighted to welcome the Rev. Dr. Lewis E. Logan II as senior pastor. A gifted preacher, teacher, and servant leader, Dr. Logan brings a deep commitment to Christ-centered ministry, discipleship, and community engagement. Throughout his years of pastoral leadership , he has been known for his thoughtful preaching, compassionate pastoral care, and passion for helping congregations grow in faith while building meaningful relationships within their communities. On July 1, 2026, he began his appointment as pastor of Wells Memorial United Methodist Church in Jackson, continuing the church's long tradition of serving Christ through worship, outreach, and a ministry of presence in the heart of the city.


Dr. Logan previously served Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Jackson, Mississippi, as churches in California and Georgia in the African Methodist Episcopal denomination. In recent years, he also served as a teacher in the Dekalb County School System (Georgia).


His Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree was earned at Columbia Theological Seminary (2001). His dissertation was “The Black Church as a Base for Economic Empowerment in the African American Community.”


Other degrees include the Master of Divinity degree (M. Div.) (1988) from Candler School of Theology (T.M.), Atlanta, GA, and the Master of Theology degree (1993) from Candler School of Theology, Atlanta, GA.


Rev. Dr. Logan is a graduate of Morehouse College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology (1985).


He is married to the Rev. Sharma Lewis Logan, resident bishop of the Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church. The couple has three children and six grandchildren.
