Christian Education

Wells Church offers several choices for growth in your relationship to God and in your relationship to your fellow believers.  Most of these opportunities are scheduled on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Sunday

Adult Sunday School Classes meet from 9:45 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. on Sunday mornings. The classes are based on interest and include:

  • Seekers Class: This Bible study class offers an intensive look at the Scriptures under the leadership of Bettye Quinn.  Bettye provides insights into the historical setting of Bible texts as well as illumination of the message. The class meets in the "cryroom" just off the back of the sanctuary.
  • Serendipity Class: Also known as "Keith's Class," this group is led by our pastor, Keith Tonkel, and meets in the main room of the Serendipity House across the street from the church.
  • Christ In Culture: This small discussion class takes a look at Christian responses to issues in contemporary culture. Meeting now in remodeled room in the Youth Building (aka "old parsonage") adjacent to the main building.
  • James Club: This class offers a Christian fellowship for persons in recovery from addiction, their families, friends and other interested people.  Using the Life Recovery Bible, the group's studies relate the Twelve Steps of Recovery to their Biblical foundations.  The group meets in the James Club Annex in the house next door to the church.

Children's Sunday School Classes meet from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the downstairs portion of the church known as the "red rug" area.  Classes include active and engaging explorations of Bible stories and themes of Christianity for five age groups:

  • PreK
  • Kindergarten and First Graders
  • Second and Third Graders
  • Fourth and Fifth Graders
  • Sixth Graders

Youth Sunday School Classes are divided into middle school (grades  7 & 8) and high school (grades 9 through 12) and meet from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Youth Building (house next door to the church).

Disciple Bible Study meets on Sunday afternoons at 3:30 p.m.  These courses, which run 30 weeks or more, offer unique opportunities to expand your knowledge and understanding of the Bible.  Classes begin each fall and run concurrently with the city's public school schedule.  The original course, the 34-week "Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study" is a prerequisite to all other studies in the series.

Wednesday Plus

Wednesday at Wells is a whole family experience. Fellowship supper kicks of the evening at 6:30 p.m. At 7 p.m. we offer a variety of adult classes, youth group, and activities for children.
